Five things we learned in our first year
August 16, 2026 · 1 min read
The lessons that actually changed how we work — including the two we would happily un-learn if we could have the time back.
One. Talking to ten people properly beats surveying two hundred. The survey tells you what people will admit to; a conversation tells you what they actually do on a Tuesday afternoon.
Two. The first version should embarrass you slightly. Every week we spent making it presentable before anyone saw it was a week we spent guessing.
Three. Most support questions are design feedback wearing a disguise. When the same question arrives three times, the answer is not a better reply template — it is a change to the thing being asked about.
Four. Pricing is a conversation, not a decision. We changed ours twice and both times the useful part was the reasons people gave, not the number.
Five. Write things down the day they happen. Half of this post came from a scrappy notes file, and the half we did not write down is gone.
